Conservationists and academics have launched a joint initiative to declare the historic Saltuklu Canyon in northern Türkiye’s Kastamonu province a protected nature park. Known locally as a “hidden paradise,” the stunning three-kilometer gorge features cascading waterfalls and natural pools nestled alongside ancient castle ruins, historic water mills, and Ottoman-era tombs. Authorities hope that granting the site official natural monument status will preserve its rich ecological and cultural heritage while responsibly boosting regional eco-tourism. Planners envision transforming the area into a premier training ground for outdoor sports, while local residents are advocating for a new glass terrace or bridge to safely reconnect the surrounding historic villages.
