UN Warns of Health System Collapse in Haiti Amid Escalating Violence

As violence and anti-government actions surge in Haiti, the UN issues a grave warning of the imminent collapse of the country’s health system. A state of emergency in Port-au-Prince is extended amid protests, with security forces enforcing strict curfews. Recent clashes have led to looting, vehicle burnings, and fuel shortages, forcing residents to buy gasoline from street vendors. The UN cites critical shortages in personnel, equipment, and medical supplies, making it challenging to treat the wounded.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ariel Henry faces a tumultuous situation, with prison raids and escalating violence prompting a nationwide state of emergency and curfew. Thousands are displaced, and vital shipments are stuck at the Port-au-Prince port. In discussions with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Henry is urged to expedite the transition to a more inclusive government. The situation demands urgent international intervention to address the growing crisis in Haiti.
