US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha, warning that Washington will take action if changes are not made to the Panama Canal’s status.
Rubio stated that President Donald Trump views China’s influence over the canal as a violation of the neutrality treaty, calling it “unacceptable.” He also thanked Mulino for efforts to curb illegal immigration through the Darién Gap and praised his stance on Venezuela. The meeting focused on strengthening US-Panama ties and regional security.
