Warehouse Fire in Czechia Destroys 75,000 Shoes

A massive fire at a historic shoe warehouse in Zlin, Czech Republic, triggered a partial building collapse and destroyed 75,000 pairs of shoes. Around 300 firefighters and a helicopter rushed to the former Bata factory, successfully evacuating 100 people without any reported injuries. The blaze wiped out an estimated 7.2 million euros worth of inventory belonging to the local footwear brand Vasky. Highlighting the devastating financial loss, company founder Vaclav Stanek stated, “The only shoes we have left are the ones in our stores.” Although the flames are now under control, authorities warn of further structural collapse as they investigate the cause of the disaster.
