Wild Milu Deer Spotted at Coastal Wetland in East China

In eastern Jiangsu Province, specifically in Rudong County’s coastal wetland, over 30 wild milu deer were recently spotted. These deer are also referred to as Pere David’s deer and are unique to China. The Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve, located approximately 70 km from the wetland, confirmed that it had released this herd of deer into the wild. This species is considered a first-class protected animal in China since it was on the brink of extinction in the early 1900s due to habitat loss and excessive hunting.
