Syrian Interim President Ahmed Al-Shara announced in his first address to the nation that they started work to establish a comprehensive transitional government in Syria.

The Syrian leader stated that a national dialogue conference will be held in the coming days to discuss the country’s future political steps, and two preparatory committees will be formed to prepare for the conference and to elect a small-scale legislative council to fill the institutional gap that will emerge during the transition period. A constitutional declaration will be issued afterwards, Al-Shara said.

“We will work to establish a comprehensive transitional government that reflects the diversity of Syria, with its men, women and youth. We will build Syria’s new institutions until we reach a level where free and fair elections can be held,” he added.

Al-Shara said that they want to build strong state institutions based on efficiency and justice, free from corruption, nepotism and bribery, and that those involved in massacres and crimes in Syria, whether they are hiding in the country or have fled abroad, will be tried through justice in order to ensure civil peace.

Flood Emergency Paralyzes NYC and New Jersey

0

A state of emergency was declared in New Jersey due to severe flash flooding, while parts of New York City, including the subway system, were submerged by heavy rainfall.

Governor Phil Murphy urged residents to stay home, as submerged vehicles and flooded roads paralyzed districts like Somerville and Plainsville. In New York City, subway lines 1, 2, and 3 were suspended, with water pouring into stations like 23rd Street. Social media footage showed stairwells turning into waterfalls and passengers stranded in subway cars.

Floodwaters also disrupted traffic on Manhattan’s FDR Drive. Nearly 18 million people across the East Coast, including in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, remain under flood warnings.
