WWII Bomb Explosion Kills Five in Indonesian Fishing Village

A suspected World War II-era explosive detonated in an Indonesian fishing village in the Papua region, killing five people and injuring 19 others. Police authorities believe the deadly blast was caused by an old bomb or mortar shell, noting that search teams are still looking for three missing individuals. Unidentified human remains have been recovered at the disaster site as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. Unexploded historical ordnance remains a persistent hazard in the country, echoing a similar incident last year when an accidental military disposal detonation in West Java claimed 13 lives.
