2nd century of Roman Aquedact in Turkey still stands

Founded by the Bithynia King Nikomedes I, Nicomedia (Izmit) served as the capital of the Roman Empire for a long time after the Bithynia Kingdom. While some of the many buildings and artifacts built during these periods have survived to the present day, the traces of some of them are not found.

One of the structures that have survived but in a dilapidated state is the ancient aqueduct located in Kabaoğlu District. 50 meters long, 15 meters high aqueduct was built by the Nicomedia Governor Plinius during the reign of Emperor Trajan in the 2nd century. Sources also indicate that the aqueduct, which was built to supply water to the city, was repaired during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods.
