Mexico takes action against sale of artifacts in paris auctions

The Mexican Ministry of Culture reported that legal and diplomatic proceedings were initiated to prevent the sale of 50 historical artifacts belonging to Mexico in two separate auctions to be held in Paris, the capital of France, on February 9 and 11. Mexican Culture Minister Alejandra Frausto Guerrero stated that the sale of historical artifacts smuggled out of the country is unacceptable in the letters he sent to the French companies “Societe Beacque et Associes” and “Societe Binoche et Giquello” that will hold the auctions.

The Mexican government has not been able to prevent the sale of any historical artifacts in its work so far, but by succeeding in making public opinion, it has brought the issue of ” Safeguarding Cultural Heritage ” to the agenda at the World Cultural Policy Conference (Mondiacult) to be held in Mexico between 28-31 September 2022.

In two separate auctions held in Paris on January 28 and November 3, 2021, Mexican historical artifacts were sold despite all the Mexican government’s attempts to prevent it.
