Local officials in Istanbul, Türkiye’s largest city, have announced the discovery of at least three ancient grave steles. Mahir Polat, the deputy secretary-general of the Istanbul Municipality, revealed that these 1,500-year-old steles were found during an ongoing archaeological excavation at Sarachane Archaeology Park.
Polat expressed his excitement, stating, “Our teams have unearthed a remarkable collection of historical artifacts just one meter below the surface in the heart of Istanbul.” He further mentioned that another artifact was uncovered during the same excavation, although it remains uncertain if it is also a grave stele.
