bronze age ruins discovered in Turkey’s Bartin

The remains of the Early Bronze Period, dating back to 5000 years ago, were discovered in a destroyed area in Bartin as a result of archaeological studies conducted by Bartin University. It has been reported that large-scale investigations will be initiated in the area where the remains are found. While detecting lion sculptures with a unique style in the Ulus District was exciting, it was evaluated that there could be a workshop producing these sculptures in the region. Studies were initiated to bring lion sculptures into scientific literature.

Assoc. Dr. Fatma Bağdatlı Çam gave information about the archaeological studies and said, “An archaeological project carried out by the Bartın University Archeology Research and Application Center has been conducting surveys in the province and districts of Bartın since 2017. We are carrying out our project with the participation of faculty members, experts and students from 7 different universities. In our work since 2017, we have been trying to illuminate the past of Bartın, the history of settlement since ancient times. In the studies we conducted in 2021, the city center of Bartın actually dates back to BC. We have identified traces of settlement since 3000 BC, from the Early Bronze Age. Thus, we prove that the history of the city of Bartın goes back to much earlier periods.”

Stating that it is known that the province of Bartın has a history of 3000 years, but the findings of the studies revealed that the city has a history of 5000 years, Bartın Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Handan Karakoç said that detailed studies will reach definite results and that the history will be revealed with the start of scientific excavations.
