On-orbit testing of a small mechanical arm mounted on China’s Wentian lab module has been completed. The small mechanical arm is quite flexible and can perform more precise operations. It can assist the Shenzhou-14 crew with extravehicular activities. The small arm can also be combined with the large one to form a combined arm capable of performing extravehicular operations with greater accuracy over a greater range
The module will serve as both a backup for the core module and a powerful platform for scientific experiments.
