Death Toll From Floods and Landslides in Indonesia Rises to 58

The devastating impact of heavy rains in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province has led to a tragic toll, with the number of fatalities rising to 58, according to the National Disaster Prevention Agency (BNPB). The ongoing search for 35 missing individuals continues amidst the challenging aftermath of floods and landslides.

The BNPB reported 33 injuries alongside significant damage, affecting 1,543 families and causing destruction to hundreds of homes, agricultural lands, bridges, and key roadways. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) are planning “cloud seeding” operations to mitigate further rainfall.

Additionally, the region faced additional challenges from a cold lava flow following heavy rains, impacting areas around the Marapi Volcano.
