Demand for wood increased in Greece

People in Greece are looking for alternative sources as Russia, which is facing economic sanctions as a result of the Ukraine war, cuts off its natural gas supply to Europe and natural gas and electricity prices rise. Applications for the free wood distribution program, which began last year in the suburban area of Glyfada in the south of Athens, have increased this year. “4,000 applications have already been accepted, and applications are still being accepted,” said Anna Kafka, Head of the Municipality of Glyfada’s Civil Protection Department. “The program will run throughout the winter,” she said.

Those whose applications are approved can take as much wood as they can fit in the trunk of their vehicle.
