Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Sulawesi Killing One

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island yesterday, resulting in one death and 38 injuries in the Sigi region. The tremor, which hit near the provincial capital of Palu, caused notable structural damage across the area. Officials reported damage to a key regional road, two bridges, two office buildings, and 67 houses. Sulawesi has a history of significant seismic events, including a 2018 earthquake that killed over 4,000 people. In January 2021, another tremor near Mamuju city on the same island claimed at least 100 lives.
