Eid al-Adha Marred by Destruction: Gazans Seek Hope Amidst Ruins

The recent Israeli airstrikes have left many Gazans without the opportunity to celebrate this year’s Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar. Gazan resident Najah Nabhan expressed her distress, stating that her rented place cannot replace the comfort and memories of her destroyed house. She and her family suffer from a sense of displacement and psychological turmoil, unable to find solace elsewhere. Meanwhile, Najah’s grandchildren had to search through the rubble of their demolished home for clothes to wear instead of going to the markets to buy new ones. Mohammed Nabhan, Najah’s son, echoed their longing for a new home where they can find peace and celebrate the holidays like everyone else.

The Israeli army’s airstrikes in May, targeting sites affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and their rocket-launching houses, led to a five-day military confrontation with Gaza. The conflict resulted in the destruction of 120 residential units and the displacement of over 1,000 people, according to official statistics from the Hamas-run Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Gaza.
