Flamingos Remain in Lake Van Due to Higher Average Temps

Migratory guests of Lake Van, a bird paradise that hosts many bird species every year, extend their stay due to the increase in average temperature and the hunting ban. Flamingos, which normally leave the lake basin with the arrival of winter, now continue to stay in the winter months.

“With each passing day, more and more flamingos are staying in the Van Lake Basin and spending the winter. The reason for this is that sometimes when birds realize that they have plenty of food, they stay, and their numbers increase. The reason for this is that the climate in the Van Lake basin is suitable for them to live this year,” said Prof. Dr. Luqman Aslan, Van YYÜ Wild Animal Protection and Rehabilitation Center Director.
