The FFC reported that 12 activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, actor Liam Cunningham, EU lawmaker Rima Hassan, and two Turkish nationals, were detained and taken to Israel.
The ship, which departed from Sicily on June 1, aimed to break the blockade on Gaza. According to the FFC, Israeli forces used drones, tear gas, and signal jammers during the raid. Video footage showed the activists with hands raised as Israeli troops boarded.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry mocked the mission, calling the vessel a “celebrity selfie yacht” and claiming it carried minimal aid. It said all detainees were unharmed and would be deported.
The Madleen was towed to the Israeli port of Ashdod. The raid comes amid continued Israeli military operations in Gaza and increasing international criticism over humanitarian access.
