Heavy Penalties for Removing Protected Peonies in Türkiye’s Balıkesir

In Kazdağı National Park, Balıkesir, Türkiye plucking or removing peonies is strictly prohibited, and a penalty of 244,000 liras (USD 10,000) is imposed on violators. Peonies in the park dry out within two weeks after blooming and are considered protected plants. Balıkesir University Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Fatih Satıl, emphasized the importance of these endemic and protected species, stating that there are two types of peonies in Kazdağı: red and white.
