Japan’s Low-Cost H3 Rocket Achieves Orbit

Japan has successfully launched its new, highly efficient H3 rocket, marking a strong comeback for the nation’s space ambitions. Lifting off from the Tanegashima Space Center, the rocket flawlessly carried the “VEP-5” prototype satellite and six university microsatellites into their target orbit. This mission was the first test of the “30 configuration,” the most budget-friendly version of the H3 series, which runs entirely on liquid-fueled engines without solid-fuel thrusters. The successful flight restores vital confidence in the program following a high-profile launch failure last December. Developed alongside Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the H3 is designed to significantly boost Japan’s global competitiveness by providing flexible and affordable satellite launch solutions.
