One of the demonstrators was dragged into the territory of the Chinese Consulate and beaten. According to the Manchester police statement, an investigation into the incident has been launched, and the national police force and diplomatic partners have been contacted.

A man in his 30s sustained various physical injuries and was taken to the hospital, the police said.
