Olive Harvest Begins in Earthquake-Split Grove in Southern Türkiye

Olive harvesting has begun in a 33-acre grove in Hatay’s Altınözü district, where the ground split apart during the 2023 earthquakes, leaving a massive fissure between sections of the land. Located in Tepehan neighborhood, the grove was divided by a crack nearly 300 meters wide, while around 200 olive trees were swallowed by the gap. Farmers continue harvesting trees along the edge of the fissure, cautiously working near the steep drop. Farmer Bahattin Temizkan said olive oil prices vary depending on acidity levels, ranging from 130 to 180 Turkish liras per liter.
