UN Envoy Expresses Optimism After Meeting TRNC President

UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin, expressed optimism about efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue following her meeting with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Tufan Erhürman. The meeting, held at the Presidential Palace, lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes and focused on preparations for a trilateral meeting planned for next week. Speaking to reporters afterward, Holguin said they had discussed several issues ahead of the upcoming talks. “As I said the other day in South Cyprus, I am optimistic. I hope I’m not the only optimist on the island,” she said, describing her meeting with Erhürman as a good one. She added that she would continue her efforts on the Cyprus issue.
