rain in Baghdad floods streets, increases water level of Tigris and Euphrates

The heavy rain that started yesterday in the central and southern parts of Iraq, which has been facing danger of drought because of the decrease in precipitation for the last 3 years, has led to floods in some parts of the capital Baghdad. The streets in the area and the Al-Numan State Hospital in Al-Adhamiya district were flooded.

Baghdad Municipality instructed to mobilize all means to drain the rainwater.

The scene was also similar in the Diyala Governorate.

The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources announced that the decreasing water level of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers increased after the rainfall. It was also said that all the rainwater accumulated in the cities was poured into the rivers.

Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid recently stated at the UN Climate Change Conference held in Egypt that Iraq is one of the countries affected by climate change.
