New footage of torture and sexual assaults on prisoners and detainees have caused quite a stir in Russia. The footage revealed the staff of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and guards of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) urinating on prisoners, beating them with sticks, and some raping them with torture tools. A total of 40 gigabytes of footage, collected by approximately 18,000 volunteers after long efforts, were shared on a website. The footage had been recorded by FSB and FSIN members for a long time.
According to the news site on Russian opposition, the head of the department of the Saratov Region Federal Prison Service have resigned. An investigation was launched by district attorneys into incident.
