South Korea Holds Early Election After President’s Removal

 

South Koreans voted in early elections after President Yoon Suk-yeol was removed from office over a martial law crisis. Polls opened at 6:00 a.m. with 44.39 million registered voters.

By 1:00 p.m., over 27.5 million had voted. An additional 15.4 million voted early on May 29–30. Vote counting will begin after polls close at 8:00 p.m.

Top candidates include Lee Jae-myung (Democratic Party) and Kim Moon-soo (People’s Power Party), with others also contesting.
