Sudan’s Army and RSF Agree to Ceasefire and Aid

Sudan’s army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have reached a milestone agreement to protect civilians and deliver essential humanitarian aid amid an ongoing crisis. The country has been grappling with a dire humanitarian situation due to conflicts between the army and the RSF paramilitary group.

After a week of negotiations held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the parties involved signed a statement committing to a short-term ceasefire during the next round of talks. The army and RSF troops have also pledged to safeguard civilians and provide critical assistance to those in need.

While the two sides held different views on the ceasefire, the mediators from Saudi Arabia and the US are working to reach a comprehensive agreement within 10 days. The US State Department official who spoke on the matter confirmed that both sides had signed a declaration aimed at improving the flow of humanitarian aid and repairing essential infrastructure such as water and electricity lines.
