Turkish Woman Turns Copper Crafting Hobby Into a Career

Seda Çetin, 40, from Türkiye’s southeastern city of Gaziantep has turned a hobby into an 11-year career, becoming a master craftswoman in the traditionally male-dominated field of copper craftsmanship. She first discovered the trade through a women’s training course organized by the Gaziantep Copper and Mother-of-Pearl Craftsmen’s Chamber and later earned her Master Instructor certificate. Today, she produces handmade copper trays, coffee pots, flasks and other items, earning an income from her work. Çetin said the craft also helps her relieve stress, describing it as a form of therapy. “No one should say they can’t do it. There is nothing that cannot be done. If there is determination and ambition, we can do anything,” she said, encouraging more women to enter the profession.
