unique UNESCO-protected mosque is to be opened for visitors in 2024

Restoration work continues at the Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital, which is located in the Divriği district of Sivas province in Türkiye and is under protection by UNESCO. Being built between 1228 and 1243 during the Anatolian Seljuk State, the mosque is decorated with more than 10,000 different motifs and a unique silhouette of praying people, which appears on the gate of heaven and the crown gate at certain periods of the day. The mosque is waiting for the spring of 2024 to fascinate visitors.

“Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital is a very important historical building in terms of world heritage. This is the first artifact to be taken under protection by UNESCO for the first time in Türkiye. Hopefully, the restoration work of this historical monument will be completed in the spring of 2024, and it will be opened to visitors,” said Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek.
