Venezuela Twin Earthquakes Death Toll Reaches 3,889

The death toll from the powerful 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has climbed to 3,889, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information. While the number of injured currently stands at 16,740, the twin tremors destroyed or severely damaged over 1,000 buildings and displaced nearly 18,000 residents. Rescue teams have successfully pulled 6,462 survivors from the rubble, even as the disaster zone continues to be rattled by more than 1,140 aftershocks. A massive recovery operation remains underway, with tens of thousands of local workers, international experts, and volunteers working tirelessly to deliver medical assistance and aid to affected families.
