Millions of mourners poured into the streets of Mashhad to bid a final farewell to Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, following his death in US-Israeli strikes on February 28. After regional processions through the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, Khamenei’s body arrived in Iran for a massive public funeral prayer led by his eldest son, Mustafa. Following the sprawling public tribute in the Imam Reza Shrine, a private ceremony was held strictly for close family members. The former leader was then buried in the shrine’s Dar al-Dhikr hall, officially concluding a days-long guneral procession that drew millions of devoted followers from across the region.
