On the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, displaced Palestinians in Gaza are enduring a severe humanitarian crisis that many describe as even more painful than the original 1948 displacement. Families sheltering in central Gaza’s Al-Yarmouk camp are currently struggling to survive in makeshift tents amid extreme heat, severe food shortages, and a lack of clean water. Fayez El-Masri, whose home was destroyed in the ongoing conflict, stated that the current war of destruction has forced them into unbearable living conditions that exceed the historical suffering of their ancestors. Highlighting the trauma of constant upheaval, Tayseer El-Suwaisi noted he has been forced to relocate four times across the Strip, uncertain if he will have to flee again. As the local economy continues to collapse, these repeated forced migrations underscore an unrelenting cycle of hardship for Gaza’s displaced residents.
