One Dead, Over 100 Injured in Russian Chemical Plant Fire

A fire at a gas-chemical complex under construction in Russia’s Amur region has injured more than 100 people and killed a Chinese worker. Authorities report that at least 19 individuals are currently receiving hospital treatment while experts conduct a controlled burning of remaining industrial gases to extinguish the blaze. Confirming the fatality, the facility stated, “Despite rapid medical intervention, the Chinese citizen working for a subcontractor could not be saved,” and promised financial support to the victim’s family. The site is a joint project between Russia’s Sibur and China’s Sinopec, designed to become one of the world’s largest producers of plastics materials. Officials noted that the facility has not yet started active production.
