Restored Suleymaniye Mosque to Reopen in Damascus

The historic Suleymaniye Mosque Complex in Damascus, a 16th-century Ottoman masterpiece designed by the legendary Architect Sinan, is set to reopen its main sections within a month following an extensive restoration. Abandoning past plans for commercialization, the project has carefully stripped away modern additions to revive the architectural wonder’s original religious and cultural identity. The grand reopening will soon welcome worshippers and visitors back to the site’s magnificent central mosque, tranquil courtyards, and a newly established historical library. While infrastructure work continues on the surrounding smaller buildings, this upcoming milestone marks a vital step in preserving one of Syria’s most treasured heritage sites.
